England fans have demanded that Harry Kane be given a knighthood after his heroics for the Three Lions in their World Cup knockout clash against DR Congo. Kane scored a second-half brace to turn the game around after England trailed 1-0.
DR Congo Takes Early Lead
The team were staring at the possibility of a shock defeat on Wednesday evening. DR Congo took the lead in just the seventh minute through Brian Cipenga. England were frustrated as they searched for a way back into the game.
Kane's Second-Half Heroics
It took until the 75th minute, when Harry Kane headed an equaliser past an inspired goalkeeper in Lionel Mpase. Kane was the hero again with four minutes of normal time remaining. His brilliant goal completed the turnaround for England and saw them come out as 2-1 winners.
Fans Call for Knighthood
The captain's goals have now led to fans demanding that he is knighted at the end of the tournament. One took to social media to say: "We win this World Cup, give Harry Kane a knighthood IMMEDIATELY." A second added: "Considering all the players knighted in the past, it should have been Sir Harry Kane even before the start of this tournament."
"@RoyalFamily just putting it out there, Knight Harry Kane! #England," a third said. Another fan added: "They have to knight Harry Kane. None of that MBE, straight to knighthood."
