Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield has claimed that Guy Ritchie's reported interest in casting Meghan Markle in his series The Gentlemen is down to one thing – the director wanting to do a favour for Prince Harry after the death of his mother, Princess Diana.
Speaking on TalkTV with presenter Peter Cardwell, Schofield discussed reports that the Duchess of Sussex has been scouted by the Hollywood heavyweight for a role in series three of the drama, a season which has not even been confirmed yet.
Ritchie 'honouring Princess Diana's legacy'
Schofield said on the programme: “I still look at a casting like this and think it’s Guy Ritchie honouring Princess Diana’s legacy, doing these two a favour. Because if Meghan Markle were so hot when it comes to Hollywood, she lived an hour from there!
“Why didn’t she pursue any opportunities besides playing herself in this new movie with Jack Quaid and Lily Collins? That’s really the only acting she’s done since she’s returned to the United States.
“You have this multimillion dollar deal with Netflix and it takes you six years to secure something substantial?
“It sounds like Guy Ritchie doing them a favour, and he would be doing that favour again, I think, because of Guy Ritchie’s appreciation for the Royal Family.”
Talks in 'very early stages'
Deadline reports that “preliminary conversations” have taken place which could see Meghan appear in series three of Ritchie’s drama The Gentlemen, starring Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Vinnie Jones.
The publication reports that the reported talks “are in very early stages” and are “hypothetical at this point because The Gentlemen […] has not been renewed for a third season yet”. It adds that “no role” has yet been identified for Meghan.
