The film and television industry is preparing for its first major awards night of the year, as the full list of contenders for the 2026 Golden Globes has been officially announced. The glittering ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this weekend, on Sunday 11 January.
Film Categories: A Battle of Titans
In the cinematic races, Paul Thomas Anderson's Leonardo DiCaprio-led caper One Battle After Another emerged as a dominant force, securing multiple nominations. It faces stiff competition across the drama and comedy categories.
Other major films in contention include Chloé Zhao's poignant adaptation Hamnet, Joachim Trier's family drama Sentimental Value, and Josh Safdie's ping-pong comedy Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet. The prestigious Best Film – Drama category will see Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Sinners vie for the top honour.
Acting nominations feature a blend of established stars and rising talent. The Best Male Actor in a Film – Drama category includes performances from Joel Edgerton, Oscar Isaac, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Wagner Moura, and Jeremy Allen White. Meanwhile, the female acting categories spotlight Jessie Buckley, Jennifer Lawrence, Renate Reinsve, Julia Roberts, Tessa Thompson, and Eva Victor for drama, and Rose Byrne, Cynthia Erivo, Kate Hudson, Chase Infiniti, Amanda Seyfried, and Emma Stone for musical or comedy.
Television and New Podcast Honour
On the television side, the critically acclaimed Netflix drama Adolescence, a British series about a schoolboy accused of murder, earned a significant nod. It competes in the Best Limited Series category alongside All Her Fault, The Beast In Me, Black Mirror, Dying For Sex, and The Girlfriend.
Returning favourites also feature heavily, with series like The White Lotus, Severance, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and Hacks all receiving nominations across various TV categories.
A notable change for the 2026 awards is the introduction of a new podcast category. The nominees, drawn from the year's most-listened-to shows, include Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, and SmartLess.
Hosts and Honourees
Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to return as host, following her successful debut as the ceremony's first-ever solo female host in 2025. The event will also bestow two lifetime achievement awards: the Cecil B. DeMille award will go to legendary actress Helen Mirren, while the Carol Burnett award will be presented to Sarah Jessica Parker for her outstanding contributions to television.
The upcoming ceremony follows the 2025 Golden Globes, where the historical drama Shogun triumphed in television and The Brutalist won top film honours. All eyes will now be on the Beverly Hilton this Sunday to see which nominees from the packed 2026 list will claim the coveted golden statuettes.
