Caleb Miligan's long-running revenge plot against Joe Tate reached its climax in the August 24 episode of Emmerdale, as Joe's wedding day unravelled completely.
Joe had targeted Caleb in early 2025 after discovering he needed a kidney transplant. He had searched for a donor with Doctor Crowley, and Caleb was the only match. Instead of asking for help, Joe kidnapped Caleb, knocked him unconscious, and had the transplant performed without his knowledge.
Caleb's plan comes together
Caleb had tried to get revenge on Joe before, but nothing had worked. Last month, he spotted an opportunity when Billy Fletcher was rushed to hospital with a brain bleed after being hit over the head. Caleb worked to give police reasons why Joe could have attacked Billy.
When Billy woke from his coma, he said he couldn't remember much, but Caleb planted seeds in his mind that Joe was responsible. Billy told Dawn Taylor, leading her to decide to leave Joe and start a new life with Billy and their children. The escape plan was created by Caleb and Ruby Miligan.
Wedding day chaos
A hurdle came when Billy learned that Kev Townsend was actually responsible for putting him in hospital. Billy wanted to leave the village immediately, but Caleb said the fake passports wouldn't be ready until the day of Dawn and Joe's wedding.
On the wedding day, Joe was with Graham Foster and young Lucas, while Dawn packed her things. She had an emotional encounter with Kim Tate, but it wasn't enough to make her back out.
As Dawn loaded her car, Graham spotted her. He had worked out what Dawn and Billy were up to. He pointed out that Billy couldn't have known Joe attacked him, since the hit happened from behind. Dawn, desperate to leave, hit Graham over the head with a shovel and drove off with Billy and the children.
Caleb's confession
As the family left the village, Caleb was in the pub, listening to Joe talk about how great his life was. He could no longer keep quiet, and enjoyed alluding to Joe that he had done something awful, while Joe couldn't work out what it was.
'What I've done, is blow your entire world apart', Caleb said with a smile. With Dawn, Billy and the kids leaving Emmerdale, the question remains whether Caleb has finally won, or if another hurdle awaits Dawn and Billy on the road.
