In an unearthed clip from 2007, Dolly Parton made a moving admission about how she wanted to be remembered. The country music superstar died at the age of 80, with the news announced by her family on Tuesday night, 25 August.
Tribute on The One Show
On Wednesday's The One Show, hosts Clara Amfo and JB Gill paid an emotional tribute to the 'big friend of the show', sharing a montage of unearthed clips, past performances and interviews on the BBC One programme.
In one particularly emotional clip from 2007, Dolly was at the Imagination Library UK Launch, via The One Show, where she said: "Boy, a hundred years from now, how would I want to be remembered? Well, actually, I would love for people to be able to say that I was somebody that cared. I'd just as soon be remembered for that than anything."
Host Alex Jones' tribute
Following the moving video montage, host Alex Jones, who had interviewed Dolly many times over the years, shared her own video tribute. Alex, currently on holiday, sent a video from her getaway, saying: "We heard last night, of course, about lovely Dolly, and it honestly shook me to my core. Dolly, as you will know, we've been talking a lot about favourite guests because of the 20th anniversary, and Dolly was hands down my absolute favourite. So strong, but so soft. So lovely, but feisty at the same time. The absolute embodiment of every woman. It was such a treat to have her on every single time and the world will be a dimmer place without her."
