Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. Her family confirmed the heartbreaking news on Tuesday night, 25 August.
Family Confirms Death
The singer was celebrated for her groundbreaking music, including hits such as 9 To 5, I Will Always Love You and Jolene. Just days before her death, she admitted she 'didn't pay attention to' health issues.
Her nephew announced her death in an emotional video on her social media platforms, saying: "My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton. I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next."
He added: "This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven't truly felt it until now."
Tributes on The One Show
The heartfelt video announcement continued: "It is an honour, an honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens."
Dolly's husband Carl Dean passed away last year at the age of 82. During Tuesday's The One Show, which broadcast precisely as the tragic news emerged, presenters JB Gill and Angellica Bell delivered a moving tribute to Dolly at the programme's close.
JB, 39, said: "Now just before we go, like many of you, we've just heard the very sad news that the legendary Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. She was a big friend of the show, having been on many times, and was loved by people all over the world. So our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and fans. We'll be paying tribute in tomorrow's show."
