Liliana Myers, widow of Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers, has revealed she is auctioning some of his personal items, including his dancing shoes from Strictly Come Dancing. The TV chef died in February 2024 at the age of 66, two years after he revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer.
Dave married Liliana in 2011, with his best friend and TV partner Si serving as best man. Both Si and Liliana have received an outpouring of support from fans following Dave's death, and Liliana has now revealed she is sharing a way for fans to be closer to him.
Auction planned for what would have been his 69th birthday
She appeared on This Morning on Friday, August 28, with hosts Joel Dommett and Sian Welby, where she shared plans for an auction on what would have been Dave's 69th birthday. The proceeds will partly be going to NSPCC Childline, while fans will also be given a chance to celebrate Dave and his legacy.
Liliana explained: "I wanted to celebrate his birthday in a special way, and I know that he loved the public and his fans a lot. He was larger than life, and what better way to celebrate his life than giving some of his precious belongings to the public," reports the Mirror.
She continued: "It's a way of celebrating him, celebrating the fantastic person he was, the explosion of energy he was." Among Dave's belongings that Liliana went through included a hand-written note from Sir Roger Moore, as well as momentos from his stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
Strictly memories and a tribute from Karen Hauer
The TV chef competed on Strictly in 2013 during series 11 with Karen Hauer. Liliana told the This Morning hosts how Dave's Strictly shoes are up for auction, saying: "He brought home two pairs, I kept one and one is here. He absolutely loved that experience."
She laughed: "The man could not dance, and Karen his dance partner said about him, 'Dave, you don't have two left feet, you have seven left feet'. And she had to teach him to walk straight before any dancing steps... he was walking slanted. She tied him with straps and made him walk straight before anything!"
She added: "It was a fantastic experience for the whole family, we would be there in the studio on Saturday night, his story about having sequins, the tan spray, and he would tell the person spraying him, 'Please let me look like Artem Chigvintsev, I want a double dip'."
Karen was brought to tears during a segment on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two last year, where she paid tribute to her former dance partner. "Dave Myers was the first celebrity that I danced with that showed me how to have fun," she began.
Struggling to hold back her tears, she recounted dancing a Salsa routine with Dave, where she pushed him around in a trolley. She said: "I had a head full of fruit, and he had maracas and ruffles. We were laughing with each other, and we wanted everyone to join us in that.
She continued: "It was my second year on the show and I was still quite lost on who I wanted to be on the show and how to present myself. He unlocked that key for me and went, 'This is how you have fun, Karen.'"
She added: "He showed me how to make fun of myself, and since then, I've definitely taken that on board. He took care of me, and I just miss him."
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
