Coronation Street has confirmed that Jack P Shepherd, who has played David Platt for 26 years, will be taking a short break from the soap for paternity leave. The actor and his wife Hanni Treweek are expecting their first child together.

Jack P Shepherd shot to fame playing David Platt on the long-running ITV soap, making his debut back in 2000. As the son of legendary Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, David has been involved in some of the show's biggest moments, including the tragic murder of his first wife Kylie, played by Paula Lane, and a deeply impactful male rape storyline.

Recently, David's troubled sister-in-law Jodie Ramsay, played by Olivia Frances-Brown, has been causing chaos for the residents of Weatherfield. After ingratiating herself into David and his half-sister Shona's lives, played by Julia Goulding, Jodie even attempted to seduce David when he was drunk, tricking him by pretending to be Shona in bed.
Jack's Paternity Leave
Away from the soap, Jack is married to Hanni Treweek, and the couple announced on Valentine's Day that they were expecting their first child. ITV has confirmed that Jack will take a short break for paternity leave, which is expected to last a couple of weeks.
Baby News Announcement
The couple revealed their sweet baby news in a social media update, with Hanni posting a video of them walking through the grounds of a country house before Jack cradled and kissed her bump. She captioned the clip: "We've been keeping a secret…June 2026. Thank you so much to the dream team who made this so special for us."

Last week, on June 11, Hanni revealed she is due to give birth this month as she celebrated her birthday. She shared a snap of herself in a long black dress accentuating her baby bump, writing: "All dressed up for afternoon tea. My last birthday before I can call myself a mama & we have two June babies." She also shared a photo of Jack, who recently debuted his shaven head after a third hair transplant, grinning between their food and drinks.
