Bruno Fernandes has been named PFA Player of the Year, just days after Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Hull City on the opening day of their Premier League campaign.
The 31-year-old midfielder beat Manchester City's Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland, as well as Arsenal trio Gabriel Magalhaes, David Raya and Declan Rice, to the award.
Record-breaking season
Fernandes scored nine goals and provided 22 assists in 37 Premier League appearances last season, helping Manchester United secure Champions League qualification. The Portugal international also claimed the Premier League assist record, surpassing the mark previously set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Earlier in the evening, Fernandes' United team-mate Kobbie Mainoo missed out on the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly took the prize ahead of Cherki, Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi, Arsenal's Max Dowman and Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha.
Team of the year and women's awards
Fernandes was also named in the PFA team of the year alongside David Raya, Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Nico O'Reilly, Declan Rice, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo, Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago.
Manchester City's Bunny Shaw won the women's PFA Player of the Year after claiming the WSL golden boot for the third consecutive season. Shaw beat Chelsea's Lauren James, Manchester United's Jess Park, Aston Villa's Kirsty Hanson and City team-mate Yi Hasegawa to the award.
Arsenal's Olivia Smith was named WSL Young Player of the Year for the second season in succession.
