Tom Aspinall has reignited his feud with Ciryl Gane by accusing his rival of throwing illegal shots during Gane's knockout victory over Alex Pereira. Gane defeated Pereira in the second round to claim the interim UFC heavyweight title at the White House on Saturday night, setting up a rematch with Aspinall.
Illegal Elbows Alleged
Aspinall, who fought Gane to a no contest last October after an eye poke, reviewed the fight and claimed Gane used illegal elbows and punches. "I have to watch that again. It looked like there was a lot of illegal elbows going on, illegal punches, but generally, he looked good," Aspinall said on his YouTube channel. He also criticized Pereira's performance, stating the former champion appeared "stiff and reserved."
Rematch on the Horizon
Gane called for a rematch in Paris in September, and Aspinall accepted, saying, "Paris in September? I'll do that. I'll go to Paris. Let me know. I'll be there." However, UFC CEO Dana White indicated the fight is likely to take place in America. "I'm not even thinking about that right now," White said. "Ciryl looked great tonight. We'll figure out what's next."
Gane responded to Aspinall's accusations by saying, "No direct message. We have unfinished business." He contrasted Pereira and Aspinall, calling the latter a more complete fighter.
