Strictly's Amy Dowden Marks Three-Year Cancer Milestone with Heartfelt Message
Amy Dowden Marks Three-Year Cancer Milestone with Heartfelt Message

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Amy Dowden has shared an emotional message marking three years since she began fertility treatment ahead of chemotherapy for breast cancer. The 35-year-old, who is set to return for her 10th series as a pro in September, took to Instagram on Monday evening (June 29) to celebrate the milestone while on holiday in Ibiza.

A Journey of Resilience

Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump the day before her honeymoon with husband Benjamin Jones. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and in February 2024, doctors told her there was 'no evidence of disease'. She returned to the BBC dancing competition later that year with JB Gill but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Last year, she was paired with The Apprentice's Thomas Skinner, and they were the first couple eliminated.

Since then, Amy had a second mastectomy, which she confirmed was not to treat new cancer. In her Instagram post, she reflected on the past three years, writing: 'Three years ago today, I had just recently had my breast removed and was currently undergoing fertility treatment before starting chemotherapy. I was terrified, not only of the treatment itself, but of being thrown into a forced menopause because my cancer is hormone-fed.'

'Every Day Is a Gift'

Amy shared two photos of herself at a pool, with one showing her holding up three fingers. She captioned the post: 'Fast forward exactly three years, and my perspective on life has completely changed. I live each day to the fullest, with so much gratitude for the little things I once took for granted. I know how lucky I am, and I never lose sight of that. Every day is a gift, and I'm determined to make the most of it. Here's to resilience, hope, and celebrating every milestone.'
