Trent Alexander-Arnold made his first England start in almost two years on Tuesday night, providing an assist for Anthony Gordon in a 2-0 win over Czechia in Prague. The former Liverpool defender played the full 90 minutes, with Harry Kane scoring the second goal.

Alexander-Arnold was a surprise omission from Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup in America this summer, just a year after his move from Liverpool to Real Madrid. Questions were raised over the decision, with right-back becoming a problem position as the tournament progressed.
The current international break saw the former Red recalled to the squad. He was an unused substitute for Saturday's loss against Spain, but was named in the starting lineup for Tuesday night's clash in Prague. It was his first international start since scoring in a 3-1 Nations League win over Finland in October 2024.
Assist and reaction
Alexander-Arnold repaid Tuchel's decision to recall him, as his assist for Gordon's opening goal was crucial in England breaking down a stubborn 10-man Czechia early in the second half.
Taking to Instagram, Alexander-Arnold shared three pictures from the game, including one of him celebrating with Gordon, and wrote: “Enjoyed that one! Feels good to be back,” with a football and lion emoji. Gordon responded in the comments with a red heart and handshake emoji. Jude Bellingham also responded with four fire emojis, while Morgan Rogers posted a 'top' emoji. Jordan Henderson replied with a red heart and clapping hand emoji. Arsenal and England centre-back Ezri Konsa responded with two fire emojis.
Gordon's praise
Speaking to ITV after the match, Gordon was full of praise for his national teammate and La Liga rival. “I make that run time and time again - like you said, only a set number of players have got that ability, technique and bravery to actually make the mistake trying that pass,” he said. “So, great credit to Trent. That's why he's so good and I've been dying to play with him for that reason.”
He added: “He's had his own journey with England, probably should have played - would have liked to have played more than he has, sorry. But he's been a great character this camp, I've really enjoyed being around him. He's trained really well, so he's going to be a great addition.”
Alexander-Arnold will hope to keep his place in the starting XI when England take on Croatia in Rijeka on Saturday (5pm kick-off). The Three Lions end the extended international break back at Wembley against Czechia on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
