Aldi vs Lidl vs Cadbury: Milk Chocolate Taste Test

A comparison of milk chocolate from Aldi, Lidl and Cadbury found that Cadbury Dairy Milk remains the best-tasting option and, at the same price per gram, is just as affordable as the own-brand alternatives.

Price per gram comparison

In Sainsbury's, a 110g bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk cost £1.50. In Lidl, a 200g bar of own-brand milk chocolate cost £1.95, while in Aldi, a 200g bar cost £1.99. This makes the Lidl bar 1p per gram, with Aldi's around the same. The Cadbury bar also works out at the same price per gram, making it an affordable option.

While own-label products from Aldi and Lidl often perform better than big-brand names in taste tests, Cadbury proved unbeatable in this instance. Between the two budget options, Lidl's own-brand milk chocolate won by a mile, with a rich flavour and sweetness complemented by a subtle nutty taste. Aldi's own-brand chocolate tasted a bit artificial and was missing that rich smoothness.
