Tom Cruise has described the Prince and Princess of Wales as "amazing" and "very charismatic" after they joined him at the premiere of his new film Digger. The Hollywood star told The Graham Norton Show he had "such a good time" with the royal couple at the event.
William and Kate attended the premiere on Tuesday, September 22, where they were photographed alongside the 64-year-old actor. Tom was pictured holding Kate's hand while William waved to supporters in the audience. David Beckham also attended the event.
Royal couple's appearance delights Cruise
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Tom shared his delight at the royal couple's appearance. Asked by host Graham about their attendance, he said: "They are amazing – very charismatic. I had such a good time."
Tom joined Florence Pugh, Lolly Adefope, John Bishop and Emeli Sandé as the BBC chat show returned for a new series on Friday, September 25.
Transformation for Digger role
The Mission: Impossible star also revealed the work behind his transformation for Digger, in which he plays an oil magnate whose corporation causes an environmental catastrophe. His character is then tasked with saving humanity from the consequences of his own actions.
Discussing the prosthetics used for the role, Tom said: "The makeup was taking so long that I decided to get it down from six hours to one – it was like a ballet getting everything in place. It was just like Formula 1." He joked: "I had someone else hold the stopwatch!"
Tom stars alongside Riz Ahmed, Sandra Huller and Jesse Plemons in the film. He told Graham: "My character is outrageous and unpredictable. He says things that others may be thinking and never say. It's a timeless story about power, greed, and ego framed in a very timely manner by Alejandro G Inarritu – one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.
"I've never read a script like it, and I have never seen a character like Digger." The actor also spoke about his childhood dream of having an "adventurous life" and his drive to keep learning.
He said: "I am always doing something, learning something new which I can add to characters. I want to push every artform. I love the challenge of doing one thing while working on another. To create is life."
Florence Pugh on East of Eden
Fellow guest Florence discussed her role in the new adaptation of Steinbeck's East of Eden, directed by Zoe Kazan. The Don't Worry Darling star said: "It is a sweeping epic, and my character is also epic in every way. It has been the most amazing journey working with Zoe (director Zoe Kazan).
"It has been so special and it's like releasing our baby. I am very protective of it, and really excited."
Asked about playing the character across seven episodes, Florence said: "Because I play a character that goes across several decades the thrill for me was figuring her out as she aged.
"It really was amazing and I had a brilliant time. Creating the series was a dream and I will be talking about this role for the rest of my career."
