Olivia Colman has debuted a new look, showing off long grey hair on the red carpet at the Zurich Film Festival. The 52-year-old attended the screening of her upcoming film Wicker on Monday, in which she stars alongside Alexander Skarsgård.
Ditching the pixie cut she has long been known for, Colman embraced her natural colour and texture, styling her long hair in a side part. The new style is the longest her hair has been in nearly a decade.
A Return to Longer Locks
Colman last sported longer hair in 2017, when she attended the London premiere of Murder on the Orient Express, though her hair at that time was a dark chocolate brown.
Alongside her new hair, she wore a white dress with a mini bow detailing, paired with matching white trousers and boots.
Fans Applaud Natural Style
Fans praised the rebrand as looking “effortless and cool”. One social media user said: “Personally I think this is the best Olivia Coleman’s ever looked. I’ve always hated the adage of ‘long hair is for the young’.” Another said “Stunning,” while a fourth commented: “I actually think she looks younger and fresher with her natural hair.”
About Wicker
Wicker, out October 30, is based on the short story “The Wicker Husband” by Ursula Wills-Jones. The film follows Colman’s character, whose search for love is hindered by her fishy odour. She commissions a basket weaver, played by Peter Dinkelage, to fashion her a husband made out of wicker, portrayed by Skarsgård.
Her new partner, who is attentive and treats her as an equal, causes the local women to become enraged with jealousy and demand more from their own partners, disrupting the village order of life.
Colman called the film “one of the best and most original scripts I’d read in a long time”. Skarsgård also praised the film while joking about the intense prosthetics he wore to become the wicker man: “Most male actors dream of playing Hamlet at some point in their career. I never did. My dream was always to have nipples made out of wicker. Thanks to our wonderful directors, Eleanor and Alex, and the brilliant artists at Weta in New Zealand, my dream has finally come true.”
