New Dane Love book looks back at old Prestwick shops

Cumnock-born author Dane Love has published a new book about the old retail and hospitality scene in Prestwick. Titled 'A Look Back at Prestwick', it is a pictorial reflection of the town, complete with 40 old photographs, each accompanied by detailed historical captions.

Some of the pictures have not appeared in print before and will be of interest to residents of the ancient burgh or exiles far afield, according to the publisher.

Author's 43rd book

'A Look Back at Prestwick' is the author's 43rd book and reflects his interest in all-things Ayrshire. Dane Love enjoys finding out the 'wee stories' that don't always find their way into everyday history books, bringing them back to the attention of current townsfolk.

The book includes accounts of many individuals, events and buildings, and the author hopes it will make Prestwick folk wish to start digging more into their local history.

Old shops and attractions covered

Readers will find out more about many of the older shops and commercial premises in the centre of the town that have changed over the years, including the former Woolworth's, Red Lion Inn, Broadway Cinema and Royal Hotel.

There are also accounts of inns, shops and traders, the swimming pool, Centrum, Robert Bruce, salt making and Prestwick Toll.
