The cast of BBC sitcom Miranda has reunited to celebrate Patricia Hodge's 80th birthday, just one day before Miranda Hart appears in the second series of Celebrity Traitors.
Eleven years after the sitcom aired its final episode, stars Miranda Hart, Sarah Hadland, Sally Phillips and Patricia Hodge got together for the milestone. Sarah Hadland, who played Miranda's best friend Stevie, shared a photo of the reunion on Instagram, writing: "Our divine dame Hodglington is 80 today. We had a mini Miranda what I call reunion: We love you so much Hodglington. You are an absolute Queen. Thank you for having us… Such fun."
The sitcom's legacy and Miranda Hart's health journey
The comedy series followed socially inept Miranda as she kept finding herself in awkward situations, particularly ones involving her long-time friend and crush Gary, played by Tom Ellis. It ran from 2009 to 2015 and earned writer and star Miranda Hart several awards and nominations, including three Royal Television Society awards and six BAFTA nominations.
Since the show ended, Miranda Hart has appeared in Call the Midwife, Spy, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and Emma. However, she has had to stay away from the spotlight for a few years due to chronic Lyme disease, which left her bed and housebound for a while. She wrote about the condition in her memoir I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You.
Speaking ahead of her Celebrity Traitors debut, which airs from 1 October, she said: "I haven't done much TV work for a long time, having only recently come out of long-term ill-health issues. And when I was offered this, my whole body sort of relaxed. I smiled and I just wanted to jump about like a schoolgirl with joy."
Where the rest of the cast are now
Tom Ellis, who played Gary, went on to star as the devil in Lucifer from 2016 to 2021, and has had lead roles in Tell Me Lies and CBS drama CIA. He married screenwriter Meaghan Oppenheimer in 2019, his second marriage after EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite, and the couple welcomed a daughter in 2023.
Sarah Hadland appeared in The Job Lot, voiced four characters in Bob the Builder, and starred in Daddy Issues. She also reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing in 2024 with partner Vito Coppola, where she danced an American Smooth to Heather Small's Proud, a song her character on Miranda would regularly sing.
Patricia Hodge, who played Miranda's overbearing mother Penny, played Lady Edith's overbearing mother-in-law on Downton Abbey in 2015 and took over the role of Mrs Pumphrey in All Creatures Great And Small following the death of Diana Rigg. Sally Phillips, who played Tilly, has appeared in Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, reprised her role as Sharon in the Bridget Jones films, and leads the 2026 BBC series The Hairdresser Mysteries.
