Dunblane's historic Burgh Chambers have officially reopened after a major renovation, transforming the former council property into a vibrant community hub. The building now houses the Dunblane Makers Space and Community Co:Working Hub, offering locals a quiet and connected spot for work tasks.
Jackie Kay Leads Celebrations
Acclaimed poet and former Makar Jackie Kay joined the celebrations, cutting the ribbon at the sold-out event. The Lord Provost of Stirling, Rosemary Fraser, along with guests from Stirling Council, local businesses, and volunteers, also attended.
Jackie Kay treated the audience to several short poetry readings before touring the renovated space, including the ‘Jackie Kay Room’, named in honour of her outstanding contribution to literature and the arts.
Community Voices
The event featured poetry readings from Jackie Kay, local poet Chris Powici, and talented young writers Lexie Dobson and Miliana Ratu from local high schools.
Jackie Kay said: “It was a huge joy to meet all the volunteers and makers behind the newly refurbished Burgh Chambers. It is uplifting to know what community spirit can achieve and a special honour for me to have a room named after me.”
Steve Mason, Chair of Creative Dunblane, added: “All of us at Creative Dunblane were delighted to welcome Jackie Kay to the official opening of the refurbished Burgh Chambers and the room named in her honour. For over an hour, she captivated us with wonderful stories and poetry, and welcomed two local high school students, who read their own insightful poems.”
