Ayrshire Actor Returns as Mark Twain in Scottish Tour

Ayrshire actor Ken O'Hara is treading the boards once again as he portrays one of the most important literary figures in US history. The Prestwick performer returns in his one-man show 'Mark Twain in Person,' depicting the author during one of his lecturing tours of the USA in 1900.

About Mark Twain

Many will know of Mark Twain from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. You have probably quoted him, perhaps without even knowing. Twain is considered one of the greatest character writers in the literary community and is considered the 'father of American literature.' He was a great storyteller and humourist and was especially known for his caustic wit and observations on humanity, religion and politics.

Acclaimed Premier

Many of Twain's characteristics were expertly captured in a new play which premiered at Ayr's Gaiety Theatre last year to sold-out performances, garnering five-star reviews from the audiences. The play is now touring this July, ending with a performance at the Theatre Royal, Dumfries, on July 25. Box office number is 01387 254209.

The Show

The play, Mark Twain In Person, is conceived by Ken, showing Twain during one of his lecturing tours of the USA in 1900. Using Twain's own material, Ken has crafted an evening of storytelling and wit. Ken transforms himself into the character of Twain with great aplomb, donning the famous white suit, with cigar and whisky in hand, and has a remarkable resemblance to the man.

Get ready to be entertained by Twain's boyhood memories, his experience of the American Civil War, and many other stories from his life, including a strange-looking dog, his observations on humanity and his time as a River Boat pilot on the Mississippi. The play contains Twain's one-liners and witticisms with which he has become celebrated.

Please be aware there is use of a racial epithet in the context of Twain's writing. Find Ken on 'MAD Productions' on Facebook or at his website www.kensmad.com where you can also check out his other passions of art and music.
