Alan Shearer Names Favourite Curry in Newcastle

Newcastle United goal-scoring legend Alan Shearer has named his favourite curry in Newcastle, and it is the same dish that notoriously hard-to-please Gordon Ramsay described as the best he had ever had.

Alan Shearer's Top Curry Pick

As he carries out his punditry duties at the World Cup, Shearer revealed his choice. After an eternity of waiting, the 2026 World Cup began on Thursday with entertaining clashes, including USA's 4-1 win over Paraguay, Scotland's first World Cup victory since 1990 against Haiti, and a 2-2 draw between Netherlands and Japan.

The ex-Magpies striker has been busy in the States, commentating for the BBC on Saturday's 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco and appearing daily on Netflix's visual podcast The Rest is Football with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.

Khai Khai Birthday Party

Before heading overseas, Shearer attended the birthday party of Khai Khai, the Quayside restaurant popular with Newcastle United players like Anthony Gordon, Anthony Elanga, and Fabian Schar. During the party, staff asked him his favourite menu item. Without hesitation, he said the butter chicken curry, adding: 'If any guests come to Newcastle, this is the place I bring them.'

Shearer also revealed he used Khai Khai for catering at his Alan Shearer Foundation event, saying: 'They were fantastic and the feedback was amazing.'

His choice is sure to meet Gordon Ramsay's approval, who during a visit to Newcastle a few years ago declared the butter chicken the 'curry of his life.'
