The iconic duo, created by animation genius Nick Park at Bristol's Aardman Animations, received the Special Recognition Award during Tuesday evening's ceremony at London's O2 Arena, prompting a standing ovation from the star-studded audience.
A Legacy of Laughter and Ingenuity
Since their first adventure in A Grand Day Out in 1989, Wallace and Gromit have become national treasures, charming audiences worldwide with their quintessentially British humour and extraordinary stop-motion adventures. The award recognises their immense contribution to television and British culture over three decades.
Nick Park, the creative mastermind behind the characters, emotionally accepted the award on behalf of the duo, stating: "This is such an incredible honour. Wallace and Gromit have been my life's work, and to see them recognised like this is truly wonderful."
An Emotional Acceptance
Park delivered his acceptance speech in character as Wallace, complete with the inventor's distinctive Yorkshire accent, much to the delight of attendees. "We're absolutely chuffed to bits!" he exclaimed through the character. "Gromit and I never expected this when we started out with just a bit of plasticine and a big idea."
The ceremony featured a montage of the duo's greatest moments, from The Wrong Trousers to A Close Shave, reminding viewers why these characters have remained so cherished. Their unique blend of humour, heart, and homemade invention continues to resonate with new generations.
