Victoria Beckham's assertion that she grew up working class has been challenged by her husband David in the upcoming Netflix documentary series 'Beckham'. The four-part series, set to premiere on Wednesday, revisits the early days of their relationship and David's football career.
In the first episode, Victoria tells the camera: 'I think because we both come from families that work really hard - our parents worked really hard and we’re very working class…' However, David, who was listening from off-camera, interrupts by popping his head through a door and yelling: 'Be honest.'
When Victoria insists she is being honest, David probes: 'What car did your dad drive you to school in?' After some deflection, Victoria admits: 'In the eighties my dad had a Rolls Royce.' Satisfied, David says 'thank you' and leaves.
The documentary also covers the backlash David faced after his red card in the 1998 World Cup against Argentina. Victoria recalls the 'absolute hate' and 'public bullying', noting he was 'clinically depressed'. David adds: 'The whole country hated me. I felt very vulnerable and alone.'
