Two pupils from the same primary school in Doncaster have died within hours of each other, in what the school has described as a 'highly uncommon and heartbreaking' tragedy.
The children, who both attended Carr Lodge Academy on Grady Drive, died in separate and unrelated circumstances, the school confirmed. Staff are now providing support to pupils and families as they come to terms with the loss.
A spokesperson for the school said: 'It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we have been informed of the death of two of our pupils. Whilst we understand that these were entirely separate circumstances and wholly unrelated to the school, the loss of two children within just a few days is both highly uncommon and heartbreaking for our school community.'
The school has been working with the local authority and multi-agency teams, and specialist bereavement support is in place. Parents and carers have been kept informed of the plans to support pupils in the coming days and weeks.
The school has asked for privacy for the families and urged the public not to speculate on social media. Tributes and memorials will be arranged in due course in collaboration with the families.
