Five of the six students who drowned during a school trip to Alexandria, Egypt, have been identified. The victims are Habeeba El-Sayed, Nour Mamdouh, Salma Essam, Fares Yasser, and Wessa Sawiris, all aged 16. A sixth body has been recovered but remains unidentified.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday at Abu Talat Beach, where a group of mostly 16 to 18-year-olds entered the sea despite red warning flags indicating dangerous wave conditions and strong currents. The strong current swept the students away, leading to the deaths.
Emergency services rescued several students, but six were pronounced dead at the scene. Another 21 were taken to hospital, and three were treated on the beach. The beach has since been closed.
Egypt's Ministry of Health urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines, and an investigation has been launched to determine if proper safety measures were in place. Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stated that all emergency treatment is being provided to the affected students.
