A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly stabbed at a school in Norwich. Police were called to the school in Thorpe St Andrew at 10.24am following reports of a stabbing. Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, attended the scene.
Norfolk police confirmed that the boy was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been taken to Wymondham police investigation centre for questioning. The teenage girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the incident is not believed to be linked to reports of antisemitic chanting at the same school last week. Following the incident, students were kept in their classrooms with their teachers as the school went into lockdown.
A spokesperson for Broad Horizons education trust, which runs the school, said: 'We have clear procedures in place and our staff acted swiftly, with the whole school going into lockdown with children staying in their classroom with their teacher. One of our students was injured and is now being treated in hospital for minor injuries.'
The school, which has about 1,900 pupils including 400 in its sixth form, was rated good in its most recent Ofsted report.
