A teacher in Austria is under police investigation for allegedly failing to intervene when a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped by six boys at a secondary school in Graz. The attack occurred in the school's medical room in May last year, but the victim did not report it until she confided in a staff member at a new school.
According to the Kleine Zeitung newspaper, the same group of boys had harassed the girl in the school toilets two weeks before the rape, during which she reportedly screamed. Students allegedly alerted the teacher and asked her to intervene, but she reportedly blamed the victim for being late to class.
Six boys, aged 15 and 16 at the time of the attack, have been charged. In addition to the teacher and the alleged rapists, 11 people are being investigated for complicity or failure to help the victim, including an unknown number of schoolgirls who allegedly watched the rape.
Hansjörg Bacher, a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, confirmed the report to The Local but did not immediately respond to further requests for comment.
