A 14-year-old schoolboy has tragically died after collapsing during a game of football with friends in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Corbin Jones was playing on the grounds of Larkhall Academy on Saturday, 11 May, when he suddenly fell ill and passed out. Emergency crews rushed him to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, but are treating it as unexplained. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call at 19:08 and dispatched an ambulance, a critical care paramedic, and a paramedic response unit to the scene.
Larkhall Academy head teacher Andy Smith paid tribute to Corbin, describing him as a very popular pupil with a wide friendship group. 'He was equally popular with staff due to his kind and caring nature, and his enthusiasm for life,' Mr Smith said. The school sent a letter to parents informing them of the tragedy and offering support from staff and Psychological Services.
A parent of another pupil said Corbin's friends had done all they could to help him, and remembered him as 'happy, cheerful and polite, always with a smile on his face'. The parent added that Corbin was a talented guitarist who loved spending time in the Music department. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Corbin's family, with the aim of giving him 'the send-off he deserves'.
