A primary school in Queensland has taken the extraordinary step of hiring a security guard following an alleged assault on a six-year-old pupil just outside its gates. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted immediate action from the school's leadership.

The alleged attack occurred shortly before 9am on Monday outside Kingston State School, located south of Brisbane. According to police, a 35-year-old woman, who was known to the child, allegedly assaulted the young girl. The victim sustained scratches to her neck and arm and was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed she was in a stable condition.
In response to the incident, Queensland Police have charged the woman with four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, which are being treated as domestic violence offences. The woman is scheduled to reappear at the Beenleigh Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Department of Education echoed this, stating: 'As a precaution, security officers will be onsite to help reduce the likelihood of any antisocial behaviour. Parents and carers were informed of the situation via a letter sent home.'
