Three pupils have been stabbed at Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, sparking a lockdown and a major emergency response. The incident occurred at around 8:30am local time, with police and paramedics rushing to the scene.
According to local authorities, two students sustained stab wounds to the abdomen and stomach, while a third was injured in the hand. Emergency services issued a red tag for at least one patient, indicating critical condition. Police scanner audio described blood "all in through the hallway".
A male student has been taken into custody. The school remains in lockdown as investigators process the scene. The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department confirmed doors will stay closed until they are satisfied all inside are safe.
Pittsburgh Public Schools praised the swift action of staff and first responders. A spokesperson said one student's injury may be more serious, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
