The Owl and the Pussycat Nursery in Montgomery Lane, Irvine, has been graded 'very good' across two quality indicators and 'good' in one other following an inspection by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education in Scotland.
Key Findings from the Inspection Report
The inspection report highlighted that the nursery provides a "stimulating, high-quality learning environment" with "motivating open-ended resources that supported high levels of engagement." Children are developing their curiosity and imagination skills "very well" and are highly motivated by the "rich learning experiences on offer."
An embedded 'family' ethos was "evident across the nursery," and relationships between staff, children, and families are "very strong" and a "central part" of the nursery's work. Children are described as "confident" as they learn within a "safe and secure setting." High-quality interactions between staff and children helped to "extend learning" and "deepen thinking."
Quality Indicator Grades
The nursery received 'very good' ratings for two quality indicators: wellbeing, inclusion and equality, and learning, teaching and assessment. For the quality indicator relating to the curriculum, the nursery was graded 'good.'
The report noted that children are "highly engaged" in their learning for "sustained periods of time" and that the "very effective approach" to planning for children's learning encouraged children to ask questions and contribute their ideas.
Area for Improvement
The following area for improvement was identified and discussed with the manager and a representative from North Ayrshire Council: "As planned, staff should continue to explore further their approaches to digital learning. They have rightly identified the need to increase a wider range of technologies to enrich the curriculum and support children's learning."
Morag Steele, HM Inspector, stated in a letter: "We are confident that the setting has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection. North Ayrshire Council will inform parents/carers about the setting's progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its settings."
