Inspectors Praise Logans Primary School Improvement in Motherwell

Inspectors have praised the improvement at Logans Primary School in Motherwell following a recent return visit, confirming that no further inspections will be conducted in connection with the original review.

Transformation of School Culture

In a letter to parents and carers, HM inspector Gillian Frew stated that her team assessed the progress the school has made and how this is supporting children's learning and achievements. The acting headteacher has worked effectively with staff to transform the culture and ethos across the school and nursery, creating a calm, settled, and happy environment for both children and staff.

The acting headteacher is supported by an acting leadership team that works competently with staff to drive improvements, including an acting principal lead in the nursery who collaborates with staff to enhance the setting. The acting headteacher prioritized building positive and supportive relationships across the school community, successfully fostering collaboration among staff, children, and parents to instill a highly positive ethos.

Strengthened Relationships and Learning Focus

Relationships are now a strength within the school and nursery, both of which are calmer, settled, and safer places. Children focus well on their learning activities in the playroom and classrooms almost all of the time. In the original inspection, staff were advised to plan more effectively for children needing help to settle and engage positively with learning, and teachers were asked to prioritize planning and assessment for effective teaching.

During the latest inspection, the picture was much improved. The acting leadership team and staff worked with children to revise the school's values, which are now written and displayed in a way children understand. Staff refer to the values throughout the day to help children understand how their behavior and actions impact the school community. Children reported high behavior and learning expectations for everyone across the school and nursery.

Progress in Literacy and Numeracy

Teachers continue to plan helpful assessments to gather evidence on children's progress, analyzing this information to provide the right level of challenge. Children are now making better progress in literacy and numeracy. The nursery team has made considerable improvements to children's learning, enhancing interactions with children and improving indoor and outdoor environments, resources, and experiences.

Gillian Frew stated: "The school has made good progress since the original inspection. We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection." North Lanarkshire Council will inform parents about the school's progress as part of its reporting on school quality.
