Fury as UK school ditches Christmas cards for 'winter cards'

A school has sparked fury among parents after sharing plans to replace Christmas cards with "winter cards" this festive season. A Scottish school sent an email to parents and carers at Kaimhill Primary School in Aberdeen, advising them of the change. Teachers say it will maintain "value and respect" among the diverse cultures and traditions of those within the premises.

Parents react with anger

Parents were left angry and have branded the decision as "woke nonsense". The email to parents reads: "To reflect this inclusivity in our communications, we refer to seasonal cards as 'winter cards' rather than 'Christmas cards'. This terminology helps ensure that our language is welcoming and inclusive of all members of our school community. Of course, families are free to refer to these cards as Christmas cards if they wish."

Kaimhill Primary, which is located in the Garthdee area of the Granite City, has a number of festive events planned this year, including a party, fair and carol singing, reports the Daily Record. The email to parents said: "Thank you for understanding and continued support in helping us foster an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for everyone."

Council defends school's plans

Reacting to the email, one parent said: "This woke nonsense needs to stop." Another said: "Who is getting paid to destroy our customs and traditions?" Another added, "This is just utter madness. Why are they cancelling Christmas for kids?"

A spokesperson for Aberdeen City Council said: "The school community enjoys celebrating a number of festivals, and Christmas continues to play a large part in Kaimhill School at this time of year. Activities planned this year include Christmas parties, festive sing-alongs, Christmas lunch, Christmas boutique, Christmas fair, Christmas decorations throughout the school, Christmas crafts, Christmas themed films and activities, and Carol singing."
