Fox News host Jesse Watters faced criticism from his own co-hosts on Monday after making a controversial remark about Vice President Kamala Harris. During a discussion on The Five about Harris's foreign policy and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Watters said that if Harris became president, 'the generals have their way with her.'
Co-host Jeanine Pirro immediately condemned the comment, telling Watters, 'I don't like that. Take it back.' Dana Perino also expressed disapproval by saying Watters's full name. Watters attempted to clarify, saying he meant 'figuratively... control her... not in a sexual way.'
Viewers reacted with outrage on social media, calling the remarks misogynistic and sexist. One person wrote, 'Jesse Watters thinks misogyny is funny,' while another said, 'There was a time not so long ago when people most likely would be taken off the air, and possibly fired for saying anything such as this.'
Kerstin Emhoff, ex-wife of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, also criticised the comment, posting on X: 'There are many things to worry about, but Kamala being manhandled in the situation room is not one of them.'
Later in the show, Watters made a joke about his mother going on MSNBC to apologise for his remark. This is not the first time his female co-hosts have had to reprimand him for sexist comments; he previously made remarks about men who vote for female candidates and about women's influence over car purchases.
