Five schools across North London are set to receive £1.5 million for urgent repair works, including the replacement of "leaky or worn-out roofs". Brent Council confirmed the allocation, drawn from its annual School Asset Management Programme, with the majority of the essential upgrades slated for completion by the end of the summer holidays. The council said the funding aims to ensure the institutions are "fit for purpose" and foster "the best possible learning environment" for pupils. The £1.5m package is set to make classrooms “safer, warmer, and fit for learning”.
Schools Benefiting from the Programme
As part of the programme, Brentfield Primary School will receive new radiators installed, whilst Roe Green Infant and Junior School will get replacement windows. However, most of the funding will go towards replacing roofs at five schools: Brent River College, Donnington Primary, Kingsbury Green Primary, Lyon Park Primary, and Phoenix Arch School.
The 'particularly extensive' works at Donnington Primary School will not be completed until December. While much of the work will take place during the school holidays to “keep disruption to a minimum”, some repairs will continue during term time. The council has stated that the repairs required at Donnington Primary are “particularly extensive”, so they are not expected to be finished until mid-December.
Council Comments on Investment
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Planning, Cllr Matt Kelcher, said: “Every child in Brent deserves the best possible start in life and this cash is going straight where it matters – into classrooms, school buildings and the everyday spaces children rely on.
“At Donnington Primary alone, more than £0.5m will help deliver a major roof replacement and other improvements. That is not just fixing bricks and mortar – it is backing hundreds of families and giving children the setting they need to thrive.
“This is a real investment in the next generation. I look forward to work commencing over the summer holidays to the benefit of hundreds of local families.”
