Comedian Sam Pang has opened up about an embarrassing moment he experienced when meeting Australian screen legend Jack Thompson at last month's AACTA Awards on the Gold Coast. The 82-year-old actor, known for iconic films such as The Man from Snowy River and Breaker Morant, left Pang tongue-tied.
Pang, star of The Front Bar, told the Herald Sun on Wednesday that after greeting Thompson, he simply said, 'I'm a big fan' and walked off, immediately regretting his awkwardness. Thompson, who rose to fame in the 1971 thriller Wake in Fright, has had a prolific career spanning decades.
In the same interview, Pang admitted he considered inviting Thompson onto his new talk show, Sam Pang Tonight, but lost his nerve. He also revealed that the AACTA Awards presented a host of potential guests, including Robbie Williams, Russell Crowe, Sam Neill, and Bryan Brown, but he was cautious not to blatantly ask them to appear.
Channel 10 is set to launch Sam Pang Tonight on March 17, with the show described as a Graham Norton-esque panel show. An insider told Daily Mail Australia that the programme will offer a proper 'tonight show' for Australian free-to-air television, featuring humorous monologues and celebrity interviews.
