Three schools in Bristol were placed into a precautionary lockdown on Wednesday afternoon following a shooting that left a man with life-changing injuries. Police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene on an electric bike.
Avon and Somerset Police were called to Speedwell Road in the Speedwell area at around 1:47pm after reports that a gun had been fired at a car. Armed officers were deployed, and an air ambulance transferred the injured man, believed to be in his 20s, to Southmead Hospital. His injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
The suspect is described as white, aged in his late teens or early twenties, of slim build, and about 6ft tall. He was wearing a grey hoodie, black trousers, and a balaclava, and was last seen heading towards Soundwell on a black and grey electric bike.
Bristol Brunel Academy, Two Mile Hill Primary School, and Chester Park Infant and Junior Schools all confirmed they had been instructed to lock down as a precaution. Parents were advised not to approach the school sites and to await further updates.
A police helicopter was seen circling the area for around 30 minutes as enquiries continued. Residents have been urged to await official updates and not to speculate on social media.
