A 15-year-old pupil has been found dead at Roedean School, a prestigious private boarding school near Brighton, East Sussex. Emergency services were called to the school at 6.30pm on Wednesday after concerns were raised for the girl's welfare. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sussex Police have launched an investigation into the 'unexplained death', but have stated there are no suspicious circumstances and no third-party involvement is suspected. The girl's next of kin have been informed.
Headteacher Niamh Green expressed her shock and sadness, saying: 'The loss of such a young life, so full of promise and hope, is deeply heartbreaking. Although she had only recently joined us, she had already become a valued member of our community.' The school has offered support to pupils and staff.
Roedean School, founded in 1885, is one of the UK's leading independent girls' schools, with fees up to £60,000 per year. Notable alumni include actress Marisa Abela and novelist Tess Dahl.
