A logic puzzle originally from a Singaporean maths competition has gone viral, baffling adults across the globe. The problem, which involves three characters named Albert, Bernard, and Cheryl, was posted on Facebook by Singapore TV presenter Kenneth Kong and quickly spread online.
The puzzle asks: Cheryl gives Albert the month of her birthday and Bernard the day. The possible months are May, June, July, or August; the possible days are 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, or 19. Using a series of statements about what each knows, solvers must deduce the exact date.
Initially thought to be for 10-year-olds, it was later clarified that the question was from the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad, aimed at the top 40% of 14- to 15-year-old students. Singapore consistently ranks among the top in international maths assessments.
The puzzle has sparked widespread debate and challenged many adults to test their logical reasoning. The full solution involves eliminating dates step by step based on the characters' knowledge.
