Bury Market food hall CGI images revealed ahead of autumn opening

New CGI images have been released showing how the new Casewells food, drink and events hall in Bury is expected to look, as work continues on the major project.

What is planned for Casewells?

The two-floor, 22,000 sq ft venue is being built on a new flexi-hall site next to Bury Market and is scheduled to open in the autumn. It will feature 12 food and retail units, a central bar, and a stage for performances and community events.

The hall is part of a £33 million regeneration of the market, which dates back to the 1440s and currently hosts over 340 stalls. The name Casewells references the first shop in Bury to sell black pudding, with the original spot on Union Street said to have earned that distinction in 1810.

Who is behind the project?

The venue will be operated by Midlands Events Bury Ltd (MEB), which also runs Queens Market in Rhyl. The company aims to create a 'high-quality destination' that boosts footfall in the town centre and enhances Bury's food offering. The flexi-hall was first announced in 2021 after the market received the maximum grant available under the Government's Levelling Up Fund.

Andrew Burnett, Director of Midlands Events, said: "We're incredibly excited to be bringing a vibrant new food and entertainment venue to Bury. The response from prospective food traders has been fantastic, giving us great confidence that the range and quality of food on offer when we open will be second to none."

He added: "Combined with the exciting programme of live entertainment and events we have planned, we are confident Casewells will become a destination for people of all ages. We'd like to thank our colleagues at Bury Council for their support in helping bring this opportunity to life, and we look forward to becoming a valued part of Bury town centre and the wider community."

Council highlights community benefits

Councillor Charlotte Morris, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth at Bury Council, said: "Casewells reflects the approach we're taking across the borough. We're not simply delivering new buildings. We're creating places that people use, enjoy and feel connected to."

She continued: "Bury is delivering regeneration at pace, but growth here builds on identity. The things that make our towns distinctive matter, and Casewells is a good example of that approach. It draws on Bury's heritage while creating new opportunities for people to come together, support local businesses and spend time in the town centre."

The council is now inviting local operators interested in taking up residency at Casewells when it opens next year to get in touch. Councillor Morris added: "These images show a place where food, culture and community come together, and where investment is delivering something people will experience and use every day. We're particularly keen to make sure local food businesses benefit from the opportunities Casewells brings – please do get in touch."
