A massive brawl at Stockport College led to a lockdown on Thursday, with nine teenagers arrested on suspicion of affray. The fight, which broke out around 11:50am, involved a group of males and escalated from a clash between two pupils, according to witnesses.
Staff and security guards struggled to intervene as the violence spilled from inside the college onto a concourse. A concerned parent described the scene as 'pretty scary', noting that friends of the initial fighters quickly joined in. One staff member was seen rushing to aid a youth knocked to the ground.
The college implemented a lockdown procedure for about an hour to ensure safety. A statement from Stockport College said all safety and escalation procedures were followed, and the wellbeing of students remained the highest priority. Classes returned to normal within the hour.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that nine individuals aged 16 to 18 were arrested and remain in custody for questioning. No weapons were involved, and no serious injuries were reported. Local officers are working with partners to provide support.
Carmen Gonzalez-Eslava, principal of the Trafford and Stockport College Group, emphasised that the incident involved a very small number of students and that the situation was managed swiftly. Timetabled classes continued as normal, and the campus is fully operational.
