Armed police were called to Reading College on Thursday afternoon following reports of an assault, with the campus placed into lockdown. Thames Valley Police confirmed that a boy sustained injuries in the incident and that an arrest has been made.
The force stated that the victim's injuries are non-life-threatening and he is receiving hospital treatment. Contrary to some media reports, the incident has not been categorised as a major incident by the police.
A witness told the Reading Chronicle that students were instructed to lie on the floor during the lockdown. A helicopter was seen circling above the college, and a visible police presence remains in the area.
Thames Valley Police advised the public to avoid Kings Road while officers work to resolve the situation. The college has issued an automated message reassuring parents that all actions have been taken to ensure student safety.
