Six schools and nurseries in West Lothian have completed a joint World Cup Walking Challenge, collectively walking 4,681 miles to symbolically travel from Blackburn Cross to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami before the Scotland team arrives for their match on June 24.
Participating Schools and the Challenge
Blackburn Primary School, Hopefield Nursery, Murrayfield Primary & Nursery, Our Lady of Lourdes Primary, Connolly School Campus, and Pinewood School took part in the initiative. The goal was to walk the distance between Blackburn Cross and the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, where Scotland is set to play Brazil in the World Cup.
Completion Ahead of Schedule
The schools managed to reach their target before the Brazil game. Siannon Ramsay, Acting Principal Teacher at Blackburn Primary School, said: “We wanted to reach our target before the Brazil game so we’re delighted to have completed it so soon. The children are all delighted to have achieved this between all the schools and will celebrate with a huge Fun Day on Wednesday before the game against Brazil.”
Community and Health Benefits
Ramsay added: “Children, families and staff have been out walking and recording their miles! This has been a fun way for us to work together as a community, get children and families out and about, promoting the health benefits of walking and build on the momentum and excitement of Scotland being in the World Cup.”
The challenge not only fostered community spirit but also encouraged physical activity among students and their families. The schools celebrated their achievement with a Fun Day ahead of Scotland's match against Brazil, highlighting the positive impact of combining sports enthusiasm with healthy living.
