EasyJet pilot reduces passengers to tears with cancer-free announcement
EasyJet pilot's cancer-free announcement moves passengers to tears

Passengers on an EasyJet flight from London Gatwick to Nice Côte d'Azur were brought to tears after the pilot made a heartfelt announcement over the plane's speakers before take-off. The surprise message celebrated a passenger named Lucy, who had just completed her battle with breast cancer.

How the announcement came about

The group of friends travelling with Lucy had passed a short letter to a member of cabin crew named Felix, with instructions to hand it to the pilot. Once everyone was seated, the pilot shared the news with the whole cabin.

The pilot said: "Just really happy to share that one of our customers, Lucy, who's flying us today - she's just beaten breast cancer, which for us all - I'm sure if you know her, you'll know that, but I think that's awesome. I really wish Lucy and your friends, uh, have a fantastic holiday and continue to enjoy your life. So, thanks, that's great news."

Passenger's emotional reaction

Lucy was overwhelmed with emotion following the announcement and covered her face while in her seat. She said: "The cancer free holiday makes it out of the group chat. Now we're campaigning to make more people check their chest!"

Lucy-Mae found out she had breast cancer at age 27 when she discovered a lump in her left breast. Four weeks later, the lump was still there, and an ultrasound appeared "highly sus" according to medical professionals.

Treatment and recovery

A mammogram and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis one week later. As she was living in China at the time, she was told to fly back to the UK within two days to begin treatment, which included chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and surgery for a lumpectomy and lymph node removal.

One year after her initial diagnosis, Lucy was officially confirmed cancer free. Throughout her treatment, she shared her story on TikTok, building a community of more than a thousand followers. She continues to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourages women to check their breasts regularly.
