Emergency services recovered the body of a woman in her 50s from the shoreline at Portreath Beach in Cornwall on Monday afternoon. The coastguard pulled the woman from the water near Lighthouse Hill, and her family have been informed.
Incident at Portreath Beach
Devon and Cornwall Police were called at 3.10pm on Monday 5 October following a report of a woman's body located on the shoreline off Lighthouse Hill. The body was recovered by the coastguard. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.
Emergency response
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard sent coastguard rescue teams from Portreath and St Agnes, the RNLI lifeboat from St Agnes, an HM Coastguard helicopter and South Western Ambulance Service to an incident reported at Portreath at around 3.15pm on 5 October.” Devon and Cornwall Police were also sent to the scene.
The beach, which is popular with families and surfers, was attended by multiple 999 crews following the incident. The woman's next of kin has been informed, and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.
