A woman who threatened to stab her neighbour and poison her dog has been evicted from her home in Blyth, Northumberland. The council tenant was removed from the property on Second Avenue on July 30 following a series of serious offences.
Details of the offences
The offences included verbal abuse, threats to stab one of her neighbours, and threats to poison her dog. She also used and was found in possession of Class B drugs in her home and had failed to pay her rent over a period of time.
The eviction was carried out by Northumberland County Council in partnership with Northumbria Police through the courts due to breaches of her tenancy agreement.
Council and police response
Councillor Gordon Stewart, cabinet member for Public Safety at Northumberland County Council, said: "We received a high number of serious complaints from neighbours concerned about the continued acts of significant anti-social behaviour coming from this property which is a clear and serious breach of her tenancy agreement with us."
He added: "Seeking an eviction is not a decision we take lightly, but we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and criminal behaviour, whether it takes place in the property or in the community, by the tenant, or people visiting the property."
Acting Inspector Callum Bradwell from Northumbria Police said: "We hope this eviction offers peace of mind to the local residents who have been affected by this serious anti-social behaviour and that our firm stance will mean other residents are not frightened to come forward and report anti-social behaviour."
Recent enforcement actions
This eviction follows a number of closure orders on council properties in Alnwick and Blyth over recent months by the council's housing tenancy enforcement team and Northumbria Police. These joint actions send a clear message that crime and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
