Woman Raped Behind Supermarket in Clapham; Police Release E-Fit

A woman in her 20s was raped behind a supermarket in Clapham, London, despite fighting off her attacker. The Metropolitan Police have released an e-fit of the suspect and are appealing for information.

Details of the Attack

The victim met the suspect outside a bar on Clapham High Street at around 4am on Saturday, February 14. She and another woman went with the man to a nearby supermarket but became separated from the other woman after leaving the shop.

Between 4am and 6am, the suspect took the victim into an alley behind the supermarket, where he raped her. The woman managed to fight him off and escape the scene.

Suspect Description

The suspect is described as a man of Middle Eastern or southern European appearance, approximately 5ft 11in tall, of thin build, with thick eyebrows, a thick beard, and black hair. He was wearing a plain white top, jeans, and trainers at the time of the attack.

Police Appeal

Detective Constable Kay Paterson said: “The victim in this case has shown tremendous bravery, coming forward in the wake of an appalling attack. She continues to be supported by specially-trained officers. The rape took place in the early hours on Clapham High Street.”

“The suspect and the victim moved between multiple premises – including a pub and supermarket, and we are eager to speak to anyone who has any recollection of seeing them. Tackling sexual offending is a top priority for the Met, and we are releasing this e-fit to assist witnesses, or anyone who may recognise the suspect.”
