A woman was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a house in Tameside. Firefighters were called to Mansfield Road in Mossley on Friday morning.
Crash details
Neighbours said the car, a grey Toyota Yaris, rolled backwards from nearby Dalesfield Crescent and hit the house. Fire crews had to cut off a car door to reach and rescue a woman. It is understood a woman was in the house at the time but was unharmed. The car was removed from the house at about 4pm.
Emergency response
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just after 11.15am on Friday, October 2, fire crews were called to an incident of a car colliding with a house on Mansfield Road, Mossley. Fire crews are currently working alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to make the area safe. One person was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Crews are still at the scene."
Witness accounts
A woman who lives nearby said she heard a loud bang at around 11.25am. She said: "I was having a brew and I heard a crash and a loud bang. I thought someone had dropped a wheelie bin at first, or something like that. Then I heard the sirens. I looked through my window and saw the car wedged into the window of the house. There was a lady in the car but the ambulance people got her out. The firefighters cut the car door off." She said the woman was taken to hospital in a neck brace.
The resident added: "We do not know what has happened. We have heard that it rolled backwards down Dalesfield Crescent. There was someone in the house but they are ok."
Another neighbour who ran to help said: "There was a lot of smoke around but I think that was from the bricks and the collision. The woman in the house was in panic mode, but she was ok. I think she got out of the house through a back door. The woman in the car was in pain. I do not think she knew what had happened. It is a good job no one was crossing the road or in the living room of the house at the time. The main thing is that the woman is ok, which she appears to be."
The property is expected to be secured, with Tameside Council and the fire service remaining at the scene.
