A seven-day-old baby boy was abducted from the neonatal ward of a hospital in Lüdenscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, by a woman posing as a nurse. The infant was discovered safe approximately one hour later in a nearby car park.
Abduction Details
The incident occurred at the Lüdenscheid hospital on June 28, 2026, at around 3:15 PM local time. The suspect, described as a woman in her mid-20s to early 30s with blonde hair, entered the patient's room wearing a light blue coat and large glasses. She claimed she needed to take the baby for an examination and left with the infant.
Police reported that the woman is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, very slim, and had her hair styled in a braid. Family members stated they did not recognize the impersonator.
Discovery of the Baby
At approximately 4:10 PM, the baby was found naked in the stairwell of the Sterncenter parking garage, a multi-storey car park about an eight-minute drive from the hospital. The infant was next to a ticket machine. An ambulance returned the child to the hospital, where he is reported to be in good condition.
Police Investigation
A major police operation was launched after the baby was found safe. Authorities have not established a motive for the abduction. Officers are examining CCTV footage and using a sniffer dog to track the suspect. The search for the woman continues.
