Two charged with murder after woman found dead in Lincolnshire

Two men have been charged with murder after 33-year-old Hayley Ann Marson was found dead at a house in Hogsthorpe, Lincolnshire. Police were called to an address on Thames Street shortly after 9am on Tuesday following reports a woman had died.

John Scott, 52, of no fixed address, and John Welby, 65, of Thames Street, Hogsthorpe, have both been charged with murder. They appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Friday and were remanded into custody, with a further appearance scheduled at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday.

Family pays tribute to 'gentle and caring soul'

Hayley's family have paid tribute to their “beautiful daughter, a loving sister, a cherished granddaughter and a wonderful auntie”. In a statement released through Lincolnshire Police, they said: “Hayley was taken from us far too soon, leaving a space in our family that can never truly be filled.

“There are simply no words to describe how much she was loved and how deeply she will be missed every single day. Hayley was a gentle and caring soul who would do anything for anyone. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help those around her.”

Police investigation ongoing

The family added: “Along with her kind heart came a big personality that could never be forgotten. She brought laughter, smiles and so many memories that we will treasure forever. Although we would give anything to have just one more day with her, we will carry Hayley with us always — in our hearts, in our memories and in the stories we share.”

Detective Inspector Melissa Rooke of Lincolnshire's Major Crime Unit said: “We are working at pace to provide answers to Hayley’s family, and our thoughts remain very much with them at this tragic time. Multiple lines of enquiry are ongoing as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death. At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident and do not consider there to be any wider risk to the public.”

She added: “Our investigation continues as we work to build a full evidential picture and progress this case through the criminal justice process. We would urge anyone who has information that may assist our enquiries to contact us via the Major Incident Public Portal.”
