Tributes have been paid to a "one-of-a-kind" great-grandfather who died after being hit by a car in Corby less than a week after his 84th birthday.
Pedestrian Charlie Watt sustained serious injuries in a crash involving a blue Vauxhall Astra on Cottingham Road at about 4:30pm on August 22, and died in hospital the following day.
Family tribute
Mr Watt's family shared a moving tribute to the "much-loved dad, grandad and great grandad" through Northamptonshire Police.
They said: "He was a truly special, one-of-a-kind character, if you met Charlie, you definitely wouldn't forget him. He had a wonderful sense of humour, and many stories to tell.
"There is an enormous emptiness where he should be. Charlie had just turned 84 on Monday, August 17, and sadly passed away not long after his birthday on August 23, which would have been his late wife's birthday, they are now together again.
"Charlie's life was full of love, memories and plenty of laughter, and even at 84 he was still a big kid. His stories will be told for generations to come; he was simply magic. We are so thankful for everybody's love and support over this difficult time."
Investigation and appeal
A 46-year-old man from Corby who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following the collision was released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detectives from Northamptonshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage that captured any part of the collision.
